Sunday school is on hiatus due to the pandemic. Watch this page for updates.

Through our Sunday School program, St. James' hope and vision is that each child entrusted to our care:

  • Grows to love God--God the creator, God--the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.

  • Learns the sacred stories of the Christian faith.

  • Explores the deeper questions of life and faith and demonstrates a willingness to be inquisitive, ask questions, and seek out answers.

  • Respects the beauty and diversity of God's people and the many faith traditions, theologies, and philosophies of thought throughout God's creation.

  • Develops their own spiritual identity nurtured in the Word and Sacrament of the Church.

Children are always welcomed at St. James!

God blessed children with the ability to wiggle. The joyous sounds, movements, and curiosity of kids are gifts from God. Please do not feel you have to subdue those joys in God’s house.

We want God’s children to be comfortable and experience the joyfulness of worship. During the celebration of Eucharist, children are welcome to move closer to the altar or to stand on the pew to see what is going on.

Children's worship activity packets are available for their use during worship.

At St. James we believe our children are the future of the Church! We are called by God to support, nurture, and empower their future in the Church! This is a responsibility that is be shared by the whole congregation, not just by a few individuals and not just by the parents/guardians of our current children . We are guided by the "Children's Charter" of the Episcopal Church. Sunday School is available for children 3 years old through 5th grade.

St. James Sunday School meets during the academic school-year during the 10:30 a.m.service.  Children begin in their classrooms and process to worship during the "exchange of peace" in our service. Sunday School students join their families for the celebration of Holy Eucharist.

The reason we all agreed we needed to change to this procedure was for the sake of classroom lesson time as it takes at least 10 minutes to organize small kids: collect up all their belongings, papers, projects etc., get them lined up, hit the rest rooms as a group, lock the room, and get in to service and sit with families. This procedure also permits parents to sign in their children to ensure child safety and that teachers get parents' cell phone numbers for emergencies.

St James utilizes Weaving God's Promises as the foundation of our Sunday School curriculum. Weaving God’s Promises is a comprehensive, three-year Christian education curriculum for children developed and written exclusively for the Episcopal Church. It is a program with a shared scope and sequence as well as common Episcopal content.

The "Mission" of Weaving God's Promises:

  • To teach children how God’s promises of salvation are woven into our lives.

  • To teach children the way of Christ, not only in the church but also in the world as Christ’s ambassadors.

  • To give children a solid grounding for future youth and high-school formation programs, which prepares them for Christian adulthood.

  • To foster the spiritual formation and growth of our children in Christ’s love and mercy and to teach the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation.

Each Sunday Session is designed to offer each teacher and classroom to a wide variety of effective and classroom-tested lesson plans and activities.
